On 23 September 2026, I had the opportunity to visit the day-care centre and see the project for myself. I was warmly welcomed with coffee by the people supported by the organisation and their caregivers. As my visit happened to coincide with a birthday, we celebrated together with cake and music – a lovely and joyful start to my visit.
Afterwards, I was given a tour of the premises and had the opportunity to visit the various workshops. Here, a wide range of activities take place, including making candles, soaps, greeting cards and small lavender bags. The participants take great pride in their work and are happy to contribute to the production and sale of these handmade products.
The garden is equally impressive. The group keeps its own chickens and grows vegetables, salads and herbs in the raised beds. The produce is used by the centre itself and is also sold at various local markets. During my visit, I had the pleasure of tasting some freshly picked cocktail tomatoes – and I can assure you, they were delicious !
Although our raised beds were donated four years ago, it was wonderful to see that their benefits are still very much present today. The visit was a beautiful reminder that sustainable support is not only about what we give today, but about creating something that continues to benefit people for years to come.
