You guessed correctly, one of the famous Get-Togethers, organised by different groups of the Association Femmes d’Europe. Today, it was the turn of our British friends to spoil us !
When I arrived, lively conversation was to be heard around the various tables, beautifully laid and decorated. A look at the kitchen with the lavishly presented food made me very hungry indeed.
They had prepared various quiches, salads, and as a piece de resistance their famous glazed ham, a masterpiece of English cuisine. This ham was spiced with pineapples and cloves and melted in the mouth, truly delicious. I even got a slice to take home to enjoy later !
Then there were the desserts – chocolate mousse, apple crumble and carrot cake - another challenge for the calorie conscious ! I loved the idea of ‘Ixelles water’ to be offered for free, but of course other drinks were available, too.
All this lovely food made conversation flow freely and people from all the different languages and cultures just mingled and moved around. This for me is one of the greatest pleasures and assets of our Association. Naturally, much of the conversation was around planning for the upcoming events, particularly the Big Christmas Bazaar, which will happen in only a few weeks in a totally new venue for us.
We thank the friendly ladies from the UK group for all their hard work in preparing such a succulent lunch for us, at the same time helping to fund our humanitarian projects.
